What causes this: The SMITH SB80SL Fertilizer and Salt Spreader (Model 190810) and the SB-80ST are wheeled push broadcast spreaders, not sprayers. Customers sometimes confuse these with the sprayer line. Here is a quick reference for setup and calibration.

How to fix it:

1. These are broadcast spreaders for dry fertilizer and salt, designed for residential and light commercial use.
2. Before first use, complete the final assembly steps in the instruction manual. The material plate must be installed and adjusted correctly for the type of material being spread.
3. Calibrate the spreader by setting the material flow rate using the lever or adjustment knob according to the manual's material plate adjustment chart.
4. Use the deflector shield to keep material away from roads, sidewalks, gutters, storm drains, and other non-target areas.
5. Avoid overapplication. Follow all local regulations for broadcast fertilizer and chemical application.
6. After each use, clean the hopper and rotor to prevent corrosion. Salt is especially corrosive if left in the spreader.
