How to Replace a Damaged Hose, Wand, or Backpack Harness

Applies to: FGI backpack and handheld sprayers when the hose is cracked or leaking, the wand is broken or bent, or the backpack harness/straps are torn or worn (CRAFTSMAN, DEWALT, Smith, Lesco, and others)

What causes this: Hoses crack from age, sun exposure, or chemical attack. Wands break from drops or being stepped on. Harness straps wear out from heavy use. All three are user-replaceable parts and the fix is straightforward once you have the right replacement.

How to fix it:

1. Identify your sprayer model number first (printed on a label on the tank or pump). The replacement part must match your specific model.
2. Empty the tank and release all pressure before disassembling anything.
3. For a hose: unscrew the hose nut at the tank end, then unscrew the other end at the shut-off assembly. The replacement hose threads back on the same way.
4. For a wand: unscrew the wand from the shut-off assembly. The wand is typically a single piece that threads in. Hand-tighten the replacement.
5. For a backpack harness: remove the old straps from the harness anchor points (usually clips, screws, or eye bolts on the tank). Attach the replacement straps to the same anchor points.
6. After any replacement, fill the tank with plain water and test for leaks before using with chemicals.
