Nozzle Drips, Sprays Wrong, or Will Not Spray

Applies to: All FGI sprayers with nozzle issues, including dripping, weak spray, distorted spray pattern, or no spray at all (CRAFTSMAN, DEWALT, Smith, HDX, Lesco, Universal)

What causes this: Nozzle problems are almost always caused by clogging, a missing or damaged seal (the small flat seal behind the nozzle tip), or a worn nozzle. Most issues clear up with a simple cleaning. If cleaning does not fix it, the nozzle or seal needs to be replaced.

How to fix it:

1. Turn the sprayer OFF and release all pressure. For battery sprayers, remove the battery before disassembly.
2. Unscrew the nozzle from the wand or shut-off. Be careful not to lose the small flat seal behind the nozzle tip.
3. Inspect the nozzle for buildup. Hold it up to a light and look through the spray hole. If you see crusty residue, dirt, or chemical buildup, it is clogged.
4. Clean the nozzle with clean water and a soft brush. Do not use sharp tools, wires, or pins. These can scratch the inside of the nozzle and ruin the spray pattern permanently.
5. Inspect the flat seal. If the seal is missing, deformed, or cracked, replace it before reassembling.
6. If the nozzle is undamaged but cleaning did not restore the spray pattern, the nozzle is worn out. Order a replacement nozzle.
7. Reassemble, fill the tank with clean water, and test the spray pattern before using with chemicals.
