Battery and Charger Troubleshooting Quick Guide

Modified on Tue, 15 Sep at 6:20 AM

Applies to: All FGI battery-powered sprayers using lithium-ion battery packs (DEWALT 20V, CRAFTSMAN, Smith, Scotts, Lesco, and equivalent)

What causes this: Battery and charger issues fall into a few common categories: depleted battery, charger not powered, ambient temperature out of range, damaged charger, battery too hot to charge, or end-of-life battery that can no longer hold a charge.

How to fix it:

  1. Plug the charger into a known-working outlet. Confirm the outlet has power by testing it with another device.
  2. Insert the battery firmly into the charger until the indicator light illuminates.
  3. Check the LED indicator. A solid red light means the battery is charging normally. A solid green light means the battery is fully charged. A blinking red light means the battery is too hot to charge safely.
  4. If the red light keeps blinking, move the battery to a cooler environment between 40 degrees F (4.5 degrees C) and 104 degrees F (40 degrees C) and let it cool for 30 minutes before retrying.
  5. If red and green LEDs alternate, the battery has reached end of life and cannot be charged. Replace the battery.
  6. If no lights illuminate at all on a working outlet, the charger has failed. Replace the charger.
